Whether you are 18 or 85 we all are dealing or dealt with debt. Debt is a funny thing in our society. Many people are afraid to talk about and have grown up that asking about money is rude. Studies have even shown that people rather talk about their sex life than financial situations. The fact of the matter is I am the same way. It is human nature to portray yourself in a certain way that is perceived to be successful. Even if this means at the cost of your bank account and financial freedom. After moving to Vancouver you see the people with the nicest cars, clothes, jewelry and homes. I guess that isn’t that out of the norm for a major city. What was unusual was the fact that most of these people looked like they were under their thirties. Either the economy is really great or everyone is working on the other side of the fence. My point is that not many people live within their means. With the access for loans, lines of credits and mortgages so accesible it is easy for people to take the easy way out. I am no exception, I will be a graduate this August and will have some debt. Some of that debt comes from school and of course the other from entertainment. I didn’t think much of this debt accumulation until our school had a guest speaker. She was Andrea Baxter from the Smart Cookies www.smartcookies.com . She was once in my situation and took action with four other women. I won’t get into detail about their story you should just check out their website. What Andrea did was inspire me to be accountable for my money and start taking action now. So that’s exactly what I am going to do. This blog will follow my journey to financial freedom, as well as help other people out with tips and ways they can do the same. This should be very interesting!
